Welcome to The Movement
Do you need a big shift so you can buy a home in today's economy — or actually make a financial plan for your retirement?
Did your plan go into the ditch after a divorce?
Are you struggling to survive inside the big corporations in mid-level management?
The Movement was birthed with your fears and your stress in mind.
Here is the big why: the regular folks who want to buy homes and build careers should be able to actually retire and keep paying our bills — instead of only a very small few who have massive bank accounts. That is the compelling yes behind The Movement.
It would be nice to have a last name like Zuckerberg, Musk, Sinegal, or Bezos. My last name is none of these. If any of this sounds familiar, welcome to The Movement.
Start with your door
Three ways in
Students are walking past your shop every day.
The Movement connects your business to the students around SDSU. It's free to join, takes about fifteen minutes to set up, and you choose your own student discount — change it anytime. Your back office shows every transaction, and if you want more customers, you don't hire an ad agency — you drag a slider. We're opening the SDSU campus ring first, with the downtown and beach districts next as they fill.
Book a merchant conversation →You already do the work. Here, it pays you.
On every other platform, your posting, sharing, and shopping make somebody else rich. The Movement flips it: scan a QR code at shops around campus and save, see your school's launch-goal counter, and once it's reached, earn for the posting and sharing you already do — with real-time earnings you can cash out at local shops.
Book a student conversation →Growth, contribution, and real influence.
We're building the San Diego team from the ground up: leaders and managers, on-the-ground people visiting merchants, and students reaching students. What you get here is the chance to learn, to lead, and to be part of something you're helping to build — with leadership development I personally lead.
Book a team conversation →Why it sounds too good to be true
Fair question. Here's my answer.
Something that pays the people who use it, charges merchants nothing to join, and took no Wall Street money — that invites suspicion, and it should. So let me say it nice and straight: honest as can be, integrity all day long.
I'm a skeptic myself. Day one, I sat through an hour of the co-founder laying it all out, and all I said all day was wow. I went looking for something stupid and didn't see it. I showed my wife — she's retired upper mid-level management, she gets it, and she can spot nonsense coming a mile off — and she didn't see it either. She watches the meetings with me now.
Come bring your own questions. That's what the conversations below are for.
How we work
A small team that looks big — on purpose
Years ago I ran my first company out of my garage — my two sons packing boxes and populating the site, and our website looked every bit as good as the giant down the street. Nobody knew the difference. Today we run the same play, updated: a small San Diego team turning out research, content, and merchant materials like a big operation, because AI is on the team. The tools changed. The play didn't.
Teaching and training
Book author centric
My teaching and training approach is what I call book author centric. I take the best books available, pick one, and teach from the main point of the book and its author — because they're the very best out there. It's a process of loving to learn, and that keeps the focus on the student, the learner. That's the engine behind everything we teach here.

About
Mike Hatcher and The Movement San Diego
The Movement is a new economic model for everyday people: local merchants reach real customers, students save and earn where they already spend, and the people who build the local team build something of their own along the way.
I'm Mike Hatcher — Global Director for The Movement and owner of the San Diego territory, starting at SDSU. I've spent a lifetime teaching and building: kids, teens, young adults, mid-career adults, and those of us who are seniors now. I love them all. And I'm here with San Diego's locals, students, and business owners in mind.
